  • Android 9 Pie for Nokia 7 Plus met with certification bugs
  • Sarvikas in his tweet apologised for the delay in rolling out the latest Android software
  • HMD is now running final round of tests for quality assurance

Last month at an event in India where HMD announced the Nokia 6.1 Plus and 5.1 Plus, the company also announced that the Nokia 7 Plus would be the first Nokia phone to be updated to Android 9 Pie in September. We are nearing the end of September now and HMD is yet to roll out the stable Android 9 Pie update, leaving a lot of Nokia 7 Plus consumers wondering when the update will come out. Turns out, the company had to delay the roll out as Android 9 Pie for Nokia 7 Plus “met with a couple of tricky platform specific certification bugs,” HMD Global chief Juho Sarvikas said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Sarvikas in his tweet apologised for the delay in rolling out the latest Android software for the Nokia 7 Plus. He added that the bugs have been squashed and the company is “running final round of tests for quality assurance.” So while it looks unlikely that the Nokia 7 Plus will receive the stable version of Android 9 Pie before the end of September, Sarvikas’ tweet does assure us that the company is close to rolling it out and we may see it happen in the first or second week of October.

The Nokia 7 Plus was among the very first phones to receive the Developer Preview back in May. In August, following Google’s official announcement of Android 9 Pie, the Nokia 7 Plus started receiving Android P Beta 4 with new gesture navigation controls. Earlier this month, the Nokia 7 Plus received the Developer Preview Beta 4.1 that brought the Adaptive Battery feature which is one of the major highlights of Pie. It was assumed that this would be the last beta update before the stable version rolls out, but seeing as how HMD has delayed Android 9 Pie, we may see yet another beta update soon.

Separately, HMD Global this week officially announced pricing and availability of the Nokia 5.1 Plus in India. The phone carries a Rs 10,999 price tag which is pretty competitive considering the device brings a premium all-glass design, Helio P60 chipset and Android One software out-of-the-box. We’ll have our review out for the Nokia 5.1 Plus shortly so do stay tuned for that.
